Vision film about the future of the connected home. The film is set in the near future, showing state-of-the-art technology and beautiful products, but above all, this film is about rediscovering everyday things with wonder and surprise. The home of the future is one where technology has all but disappeared.

Background

Beko commissioned R/GA to produce a vision film about the future of the connected home. The film is set to be released during the IFA 2016 conference – the world's largest consumer electronics and home appliances trade show. The vision film shows a future where our home appliances are invisibly connected. Almost every material and object in the home is a canvas for information and interaction. Almost every surface can become conversational, exciting, and useful. Our homes are understanding and predictive. Above all, this film is about rediscovering everyday things with wonder and surprise. The home of the future is one where technology has all but disappeared.

Approach

The website experience aims to excite people rather than showcase the same content seen in the film. The concept of 'Pre-order The Future' allows the web experience to further develop the range of the products shown in the film and make it believe this is something already coming soon. People will be able to order which products they want and book a delivery slot in the future. Based on this vision the website showcases the featured products from the film as if they were connected to each other. Using parallax to add depth, the interface smoothly floats through the screen. Bekki (the cheerful little character that monitors and controls different devices on a connected house) is always at the center of the screen, using her movements and expressions which resemble those of a human.

Outcome

The vision film was well received during the IFA conference event and the website campaign helped to drive a 68% increase in traffic to the video hosted on YouTube. It features in Campaign and the Drum among others. The campaign provides a glimpse at Beko's homes of tomorrow: the world connected like never before, with technology transforming our everyday lives in countless ways.
